London Mess – Pudding Porn

dis_londonmessbanner_06-25Over the past few weeks I have had a lot of fun launching chef Jim Thomlinson’s London Mess, based at the Dissenting Academy in London. It’s good great amazing food and I can’t recommend enough you go and check it out for yourself.

I arranged a showcase of the new menu with a ‘feast’ style event for media and food bloggers which saw dishes such as pork neck & jowel (portioned & glazed neck, purple kale, glaze, white beets, shaved fennel purslane, gochujang mayo); mussels (Nduja, comone tomatoes, oregano, crusty bread), and a whole baked fish with wild asparagus, morels, wild garlic and beure blanc. It tastes as good as it looks…

But what I really need to tell you about is the feast style dessert which is theatrically constructed in front of diners, allowing guests to get really stuck in (I am such a piglet at one point I had three spoons in my mouth which is clearly just bad wine induced unmannerly behaviour *hangs head in shame*). Personally I love the concept of just making one large fuck off portion allowing for greedy guts like me, and those odd people don’t have such a sweet tooth, to have a portion size perfect for them.

Served at the media preview event dessert was prosecco & strawberry jelly, rhubarb, crumble, set custard, brownie and ewes yoghurt. I’ll let the pictures to do the talking…

I have become quite obsessed with this approach to dessert since first experiencing it at a Gourmet Focus event (pictures here) so expect to see more of this in the future, I already have a million ideas of how I’d like to use Jim’s performance dessert making in future Miss Cakehead projects. If you want to experience it for yourself then you’re in luck as there is a feast event on the 17th April with all you need to know below.
